2012 REGISTERED GIRLS TEAMS
The response to the opening of team registrations this year has even surpassed last year's record rate.
PLEASE NOTE: The U-9 age group is NOW OPEN. This group will follow the "Long-Term Player Development" (LTPD) principles in that each participating team will play a full round-robin of up to 7 games during the week-end BUT there will be no play-offs or Champion declared for this particular age group.
.
AN IMPORTANT EXPLANATORY NOTE ABOUT WAITING LISTS AND DIVISIONAL EXPANSIONS
At the start of the Registration Process, we allocate 8 spots for each of the 14 U-12 to U-18 Divisions (7 Ice Piles and 7 Snow Banks). That uses up 112 of the maximum number of 180 teams that our local governing body, the Eastern Ontario District Soccer Association, will allow us to host in the Girls' Icebreaker. That leaves us with 68 spots that can be allocated to any U-12 to U-18 Division. As demand for any particular Division exceeds 8 teams, we start a Waiting List. However, in order for us to expand a Division and in order to allow the Dual Shoot-Out format that we have been following for almost fifteen years now to continue to operate as smoothly as possible, we need to expand any particular Division by four teams at a time. Once we get to four teams on a Waiting List, and as long as an expansion will not cause us to exceed the 180 team limitation, we expand that Division and admit four more teams into the competition.
The Waiting List is also used as the order in which teams will be admitted into the tournament if an already-accepted team withdraws from the tournament - and that happens about six times a year.
Those are two very good reasons why it is wise to submit an entry application even if a Waiting List exists.
However, in a typical year, we have more than 68 expansion spots available and that is because the U-16, U-17 and U-18 Divisions rarely all fill up and so those Divisions are often combined, eliminated or shrunk and their unused spots are then allocated to younger age groups.
The same Waiting List practice is applied to the U-10 and U-11 age groups - with the only difference being that we are limited to a maximum population of 64 teams in those age groups.
Reminder:
Please remember that we do not need your players rosters at this time. We simply need to know that you exist as a team and in which division of your league you will be playing this summer. The rest of your team's details will be gathered at a later date.
To date, the total of accepted U-12 and older teams totals to:
118 TEAMS (out of a Maximum of 180 Teams)
In addition, we have the following number of teams on the WAITING LIST for entry acceptance into their team's respective U-12 to U-18 Age Group and Pool:
0 TEAMS
The success of our tournament relies heavily on the combination of great volunteers and the partnerships that we have established with our sponsors. The Hudson Travel Group is the exclusive travel partner for the Icebreaker Soccer Tournament. One of the criteria for acceptance into the Icebreaker will be that your hotel accommodations have been secured through the Hudson Travel Group. Hudson has reserved blocks of rooms at reasonable prices at all of the participating host hotels. In addition, please note that the Girls' Icebreaker's week-end is also the week-end for the National Capital Race (Ottawa Marathon) week-end. So, please be sure to contact Hudson Travel early and book your team's rooms. We thank you in advance for your support.
